Fairtrade Felt bags...

We have just got some incredibly funky new designs into the shop - handmade in Nepal, these FairTrade felt bags are possibly the coolest things ever. Check them out here if you don’t believe us!

This felt is produced in Katmandu, Nepal by a small family run business. The family runs a co-operative which teaches under privileged women for free and employs them at a good wage on a FairTrade basis.

Making
felt is a time consuming process using natural materials. The wool, which comes from Nepal is dyed and made into narrow strips. Then it is soaked in water and laid over a form, building up a thickness of 20-30 layers, using a load of soap and water and rubber ducks*. The item is then dried and finished with decoration and lining.
